Memorial Memoir

I have (slowly) been working on my memoir about my adoption, finding my birthfamily, and discovering my place among two families that I love.  As we are celebrating Memorial Day, a day to remember those who have died while serving in the US Armed Services, I turn to the story of my birthfather, Raymond C. Porter, a man who gave me life, and then died two years later while serving in the US Coast Guard:

    This was so beautiful, Amanda. I loved these phrases: “I found it impossible to mourn a man I did not know” and “He is 78*10’S163*40’E” as if that is a name.
