Manuscript Editing/Mentorship

29 May

I’m excited to say that I’m now offering poetry manuscript consulting and editing for those who need someone to give:

  • Individualized, unbiased  feedback on complete or near-complete manuscripts
  • Feedback on manuscripts in terms of ordering, voice, titling, narrative arc, theme, and overall structure
  • Feedback on how to turn a grouping of poems into a cohesive, professional and artistic collection
  • Suggestions on places to send out your completed (or near-completed) manuscript based on your own individual aesthetic.
  • Copy editing/line editing
  • Guidance on the contest submission process

Contest season is coming up, so now is the time to have someone go over your work in a professional, unbiased, manner! Manuscript discussion will be conducted via email, phone, and/or Skype, at the author’s preference.

I’m also offering an online mentorship program. The mentorship comes in sessions of two weeks, four weeks, or six weeks and include:

  • A detailed reading, commentary, and editorial suggestions on original work
  • A custom-tailored suggested reading list to further writer’s growth
  • Suggested writing prompts/assignments and craft discussion
  • Suggestions on where to send work for publication based on writer’s individual aesthetic

To discuss setting up a consult and to learn more, contact me here.  I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while.  I think that there are so many people who have books that are “almost there,” but need a good set of eyes on their work.  I know first hand that once you leave the “bubble” of an MFA program (or similar), your pool of good readers/mentors/editors dwindles.  I’d love to be able to help anyone out there who has a manuscript that is in its almost-done stage, needs ordering, line editing, or a complete overhaul in order for you to meet your writing goals.  The contest market is crazy and so many people spends gobs of money sending to contests blindly.  Don’t waste your money sending to Press X when they aren’t a good fit for your aesthetic.  I’ve been around the proverbial contest “block” enough to know where to send, how to send, and how to shape a manuscript into a winner.

See my website for more information.  I’d love to hear from you!
